Decoding Visual Snow

From Subjective Noise to Objective Data.

The Developer's Perspective

I am a software developer, and like thousands of others, I see the world through a veil of static.
I have Visual Snow Syndrome.

For years, describing this condition to doctors has been a challenge. "It's like TV static," we say. "How intense?" they ask. "Are there floaters?" Language is imprecise. Subjective descriptions vary.

I realized that to solve this puzzle, we don't just need awareness—we need data. We need a standardized way to measure, track, and correlate our symptoms with our lifestyle.

This is an independent R&D initiative, not a diagnosed medical device — a growing ecosystem spanning Android, iOS, VR, and web, built in the open under Entropy Vector Group. The goal: turn subjective symptom descriptions into standardized, shareable data that clinicians and researchers can use to find real treatments.

The Ecosystem

One pipeline, five stages — from simulating your exact symptoms to finding a treatment.

01. Simulate

Recreate your exact visual snow on Android, iOS, VR, or the web — grain, flicker, floaters, tinnitus, and more.

02. Log & Contribute

Patients log symptoms alongside sleep, stress, and mood — then upload standardized exports to the Client Portal.

03. Clinical Evaluation

Clinicians review anonymized cases, trends, and EEG data in the Evaluator Portal to inform real treatment decisions.

04. Research & Discovery

Researchers run cohort analytics, clustering, and predictive models across anonymized data to uncover patterns and candidate treatments.

05. Ground & Relieve

A companion grounding app that helps soothe symptoms day-to-day — independent of the research loop, available any time.

The Mission: Standardization

01. Simulate

A calibrated visual engine that lets patients recreate their exact vision—grain size, speed, floaters, and photopsia.

02. Log

Track symptoms alongside key variables: Sleep, Stress, Anxiety, and Depression (PHQ-9).

03. Analyze

Generate professional PDF clinical reports to visualize trends and identifying personal triggers.

04. Solve

By exporting standardized data, we can aggregate anonymous patient logs to find the patterns that emerge across the population.

Clinical-Grade Simulation

  • Dynamic Visual Engine

Real-time control over grain density, noise patterns (Random, Linear, Brownian), and flicker speed to match your exact visual field.

  • Entoptic Simulation Suite

Physics-based floater models and accurate representations of the Blue Field Entoptic Phenomenon (Scheerer's phenomenon).

  • Neural Distortion Modeling

Tools to recreate complex symptoms like Diplopia (double vision), Palinopsia (afterimages), and Visual Vibration.

  • Biometric Correlation

Log symptoms alongside PHQ-9 depression scales, sleep quality, and stress levels to identify hidden triggers.

EEG Research Direction

The next frontier: coupling the visual simulator with real-time brainwave data to move VSS from subjective description to objective neural measurement.

In Progress Research & Development

Mobile BLE EEG Integration

Work is underway to pair the simulator with consumer-grade Bluetooth EEG hardware, so patients can adjust their visual snow parameters while occipital brain activity is recorded alongside.

  • Clinical pilot planning and ethics review are in progress
  • Goal: correlate simulator parameter adjustments (grain density, flicker speed) with alpha/theta band power in visual cortex channels
  • Any EEG data stays on-device — consistent with our zero-knowledge architecture

VR Immersive Biosensing

Extension of the EEG work into a full mixed-reality study. The VR simulator provides far more control over the visual field, eye movements, and lighting than 2D screen-based paradigms.

  • Occipital EEG during active VR symptom recreation
  • Eye-tracking for palinopsia / afterimage tracking
  • Goal: build a matched neural + simulator-parameter dataset for VSS research
